New Merger, New Name:
CENTURY 21 Hometown Realty
CENTURY 21 Filer Realtors, Inc. has merged with its
sister company, CENTURY 21 Beach Cities West, and taken on a new name: CENTURY 21 HOMETOWN REALTY! They’re still the same people. They still offer the same great service.
They just have a new name.
With
four office locations on the Central Coast; one each in Arroyo Grande, Pismo
Beach, Grover Beach and Avila Beach, CENTURY 21 HOMETOWN REALTY will be opening up a new office in Bakersfield,
California. This fifth location will be operating in the very near
future.
What’s in the name? The new name, CENTURY 21 HOMETOWN
REALTY reflects what the company is all about, the growth and development of
the five cities where their offices are located.
FIVE HOMETOWNS
Dating back 56 years ago, Walter A. Filer founded the
company in a small bungalow on Traffic Way in Arroyo Grande. During that time,
World War II had just ended. Servicemen
were coming home, getting married, having babies and starting homes of their
own. And many of South County’s streets
were still unpaved. The village of
Arroyo Grande catered to the surrounding farms and ranches. And Grover Beach
and Oceano were just a scattering of bungalows, as was Pismo and Shell
Beach.
But times were changing. Over time, streets were paved, towns incorporated. The freeway
was put through in the 1950’s, bypassing Traffic Way forever.
By the 1960’s, Walter had become a pillar of the
community. He was instrumental in founding
Mid-State Bank and continued to expand his real estate business.
As the five cities
continued to grow, Filer Realty grew with the area. By the 1970’s, homes were selling in the $20,000 to $30,000 range
and Walter’s grandson, Rob Filer, took an active role in the real estate
business. By 1977, the company had
become the largest in South County when Rob joined a new franchise organization
that turned the industry on its head --
CENTURY 21! Eventually the company was
incorporated and company members never looked back. They still revere Walter
and Rob Filer for the start that they gave the company.
The new name, CENTURY 21
HOMETOWN REALTY reflects the companies’ pride in roots that run deep – not just
in the Five Cities, but throughout the county. Soon they will be celebrating
their 57th Anniversary of Service to the Community.
